Council circle
Our weekly Council meeting helps us govern our community. It is a time to sort out the running of our learning community. All children help to create our rules and guidelines, take on chores and tasks to keep our community a wonderful place. A time to bring up any issues that need attention, problems shared are problems solved. The rules of conduct are created by the children and also enforced by them. Democracy in action. Guided by the group. Seasonal Focus/ Story time
A focus for our week. What is happening in the cycle of the seasons? what is the significance of this time of year?what festivals are we celebrating? Myths and folk stories that relate to the seasons. Celebrate the changing cycles of nature. Listen to a story or observe what is happening with the seasons and nature. Woodcraft
Simple age appropriate woodcraft projects that allow children to explore the joy of making things out of wood. WindRose will guide this hands-on class. Caution: Use of knives and wood carving tools story exploration
Age appropriate exploration of stories, writing, re-imaginings, plot and more. We meet weekly to discuss plot points, character development, themes, literary devices, etc as well as to share our favorite aspects of the book. Lauren will guide this literary journey. Midsummer night's dream - play
Our whole community will explore Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream and eventually perform for family and friends. Guided by WindRose & Lauren nature
the whole community has a chance to explore our three acres, the river, the woods and meadow. Creating forts & shelters, clearing trails and making fires. Guided by WindRose |

numbers in nature
Age appropriate exploration of the natural world through the lens of numbers. Counting, geometry, shapes and some art thrown in for good measure. Guided by WindRose ecosystem adventures
- A discovery of place. Who is living near us? river creatures? plants? mammals? who are our neighbors? what can we discover about them? Guided by Lauren midsummer - play
Our whole community will explore Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream and perform for family and friends. Guided by WindRose & Lauren living history
- what would it be like to live in a different age? how did the ancient peoples live? or even our great-grand parents? Take glimpse of what daily life was in many previous eras. Guided by WindRose independent study meetings
A chance for each child to meet with their mentor to track their independent studies, update their field journals and have some time for personal focus and reflection. Theater Activities
We play theater games, warm up our bodies and voices as well as read stories, act them out, and create our own plays. While doing this seemingly simple task children are learning to belong to a community, take turns, learn important pre-literacy skills, find their own artistic voice, and collaborate.
